MotherJane

May 29, 2009, was a day of immense excitement for me. Reason? MotherJane was playing again in Mumbai as the headlining act for MySpace India’s first ever “Secret Show” at the Land’s End Amphitheater in Bandra. For those who don’t know MotherJane, I would just say at least now you should!
And it’s not because -
- MotherJane was awarded the Best Rock Band in Asia at the AVIMA awards!
- Rolling Stone Magazine India named MotherJane’s latest album, Mäktub, as the #1 Rock Album in India!
- Rock Street Journal, in its 15th-Year anniversary issue, named MotherJane as the Artist of the Year!
- Suraj was declared the Male Vocalist of the Year and John, the Drummer of the Year, at the prestigious Jack Daniel’s Awards!

- it’s merely because they make unbelievably good music!!!
I still remember the very first time I met Baiju, the lead guitarist of the band. I was at Stelsie Guitars, my friend’s shop in Cochin, and in walks Baiju to collect his black Squier Stratocaster (if my memory is correct), which he had given for repair. And now when I think about it, ain’t I really glad I went to Stelsie that day? :)
The MySpace show was huge fun. The venue was unbelievably packed. And by the time MotherJane took to the stage, the crowd had already occupied the entire area right in front making my job quite difficult. Still it was fun photographing these guys with their half-painted faces while listening to their insanely powerful music!
So check out their MySpace page, listen to their songs, and chances are you might understand what I am talking about! And if you like what you hear, show your support by buying their album.
